How do day and night blinds work?
Day and night blinds use two layers of fabric with alternating sheer and solid horizontal strips. The layers sit one in front of the other on a single roller mechanism. When you adjust the blind, the strips shift position relative to each other.
When the sheer strips on both layers line up, light passes through freely. This gives you a soft, filtered glow similar to a net curtain. When you shift the solid strips to overlap, the blind closes and blocks the view from outside.
The adjustment is smooth and continuous. You can stop at any point between fully open and fully closed. This gives you far more control than a standard roller blind, which is either up or down.
Day and night blinds are sometimes called vision blinds or zebra blinds. They all work the same way. The name varies by manufacturer.
They are a popular choice for living rooms and kitchens where you want privacy in the evening but natural light during the day. They remove the need for separate net curtains and blinds on the same window.
One thing to note: day and night blinds are not blackout. Even when fully closed, some light passes through where the strips meet. For bedrooms, a dedicated blackout roller is a better option.
We supply day and night blinds in a wide range of colours. Free measuring and fitting included.
