Are motorised blinds better than manual ones?

Motorised blinds are not automatically better than manual ones — it depends on the window and how you use the room. For some situations they are a clear upgrade, while for others a well-made manual blind is all you need.

Motorised blinds are worth it for hard-to-reach windows above stairs or behind furniture, for large or heavy blinds that are awkward to operate by hand, and for anyone who values the convenience of a remote, app, or voice control. They are also the safest option around young children, as there are no cords. You can even set schedules so blinds open and close at fixed times.

Manual blinds cost less, never need charging or wiring, and are perfectly practical for everyday windows you can easily reach. For a small bedroom or bathroom window, motorising adds cost without much benefit.

Many homes use a mix — motorising the difficult or large windows and keeping the rest manual. Battery motors make it easy to add motorisation without any wiring. We can advise on the right balance and include fitting free.
