Vertical blinds or curtains for patio doors?

Vertical blinds are usually the better choice for patio doors because the louvres slide sideways, matching the direction the door opens. Curtains bunch up to one side and can get in the way when you are going in and out.

Vertical blinds also give you more control over light and privacy. You can tilt the louvres to let light in while still blocking the view from outside. Curtains are either open or closed, with little in between.

From a practical standpoint, vertical blinds are easier to keep clean. Fabric louvres can be wiped down or removed for washing. Heavy curtains need professional cleaning or a trip to the dry cleaner.

Curtains do have one advantage: they add a softer, more decorative look to a room. If style matters more than function, lined curtains can work. But for day-to-day use on a patio door, verticals win on convenience.

Cost is another factor. Vertical blinds are typically less expensive than made-to-measure curtains for the same opening. This is especially true for wide patio doors and bi-fold configurations.

We fit vertical blinds to any door width. Measuring and fitting is free with every order.
