Coventry Blinds & Shutters

How do you clean plantation shutters?

Plantation shutters are one of the lowest-maintenance window coverings, because their solid louvres and open design do not gather dust the way fabric blinds do. A regular light clean keeps them looking new.

For routine cleaning, run a microfibre cloth or a soft duster along each louvre, tilting them so you reach both sides. A vacuum with a soft brush attachment is good for getting dust out of the corners and hinges. Doing this every couple of weeks is usually enough.

For marks, wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Waterproof ABS and faux wood shutters can handle a little more moisture, which makes them ideal for bathrooms and kitchens. Real hardwood shutters should only be wiped with a barely damp cloth and dried straight after, to protect the finish.

Avoid abrasive sponges, bleach, and strong solvents, which can dull or damage the surface. Check the tilt rod and hinges occasionally and tighten any loose screws.

We supply hardwood, MDF, and waterproof shutters to suit each room, with measuring and fitting included.
