Coventry Blinds & Shutters

What are the most energy-efficient blinds?

The most energy-efficient blinds are honeycomb (cellular) pleated blinds, followed by well-fitted plantation shutters and thermal-lined blinds. They all work by adding an insulating barrier between the room and the cold glass.

Honeycomb blinds are the standout. Their pleated cells trap a layer of still air, which significantly reduces heat loss through the window in winter and heat gain in summer. Fitted neatly within the recess, they can make a noticeable difference to how warm a room feels.

Plantation shutters add a solid, fitted layer over the window. Closed on a cold evening, they reduce draughts and heat loss, and they hold up year after year.

Thermal or blackout-lined roller and Roman blinds also help by adding a denser fabric layer, especially when fitted close to the glass and slightly wider than the recess to limit gaps at the edges.

The tighter the fit, the better the insulation, which is where made-to-measure beats ready-made. We can recommend the most efficient option for each room and include measuring and fitting free.
