Can Roman blinds have blackout lining?

Yes, Roman blinds can be made with a full blackout lining behind the main fabric. The lining is a separate layer bonded or sewn to the back of the blind. It blocks light from passing through the weave of the front fabric.

Blackout-lined Roman blinds are a good choice for bedrooms where you want the elegant look of soft fabric folds but also need to sleep in darkness. The lining also helps with insulation, keeping rooms warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

There are a couple of things to know. Even with blackout lining, some light will creep around the edges of the blind where it meets the window frame. This is because Roman blinds sit flat against the window rather than inside a sealed channel. For near-total darkness, ask about fitting the blind slightly wider than the recess.

You can also choose a thermal lining instead of blackout. Thermal lining reduces heat loss through the window but does not block all light. It is a good middle ground for living rooms and dining rooms.

When ordering, you pick your front fabric from our full range and then select the lining type separately. This means you are not limited to a small selection of blackout colours.

We bring fabric samples to your home so you can see them against your walls. Measuring and fitting is included.
