How long should good quality blinds last?
Good quality blinds should last between 5 and 10 years with normal use. Some types last much longer. Shutters can easily last 20 to 25 years because they are made from solid materials and have no fabric to degrade.
Roller blinds typically last 5 to 7 years. The fabric coating can stiffen over time, making the blind harder to roll smoothly. UV exposure fades the colour, especially on south-facing windows. Replacing the fabric is sometimes possible, but a new blind is often more cost-effective.
Vertical blinds last 7 to 10 years. The louvres can be replaced individually if one gets damaged, which extends the life of the set.
Wooden and faux wood venetians last 8 to 12 years. The mechanism wears faster than the slats. If the tilt or lift stops working smoothly, it is usually the cord or the headrail that needs replacing.
Roman blinds last 5 to 8 years. The fabric wears faster than the mechanism, especially in rooms with strong sunlight. Choosing a lined fabric extends the life because the lining protects the front fabric from UV damage.
Electric blinds have motors that are rated for around 10,000 cycles. For a blind that opens and closes once a day, that is roughly 27 years of use.
The biggest factor in blind longevity is fitting quality. A well-fitted blind operates smoothly and puts less strain on the mechanism. That is why professional fitting matters.
All our blinds come with free professional fitting.
