Coventry Blinds & Shutters

What blinds fit Velux and skylight windows?

Velux windows need blinds specifically designed for roof-mounted operation. Standard blinds will not work because they hang away from the glass when the window is at an angle. Skylight blinds use side channels that hold the fabric in place regardless of the window's tilt.

The most common options for Velux windows are roller blinds, pleated blinds, and venetian blinds. Roller blinds are the most popular because they are simple, affordable, and available in blackout fabric for bedrooms.

When ordering skylight blinds, you need the model code printed on your Velux window. It is usually on a small metal plate on the top edge of the window frame. The code looks something like GGL M04 or GPU SK06. This tells us the exact size so the blind fits perfectly in the side channels.

Blackout skylight blinds are particularly useful in loft bedrooms. Roof windows let in more light than vertical windows because they face the sky directly. Without a blackout blind, loft rooms can be uncomfortably bright from early morning through to late evening in summer.

For hard-to-reach skylights, electric operation is available. You can open and close the blind with a remote control or a wall switch.

We supply skylight blinds for all Velux window sizes and most other roof window brands. Fitting is included free of charge.
